Protest March to Poole's Nuffield Waste Site by Angry Residents in Upton6.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 3rd Sep 2005
WHAT: Protest demonstration by residents of Upton to Nuffield Waste Site. WHERE: Meeting at Upton Community Centre, at 10am or Nuffield Waste Site at 11am WHEN: Saturday 3rd September
A group of angry residents from Upton marched this Saturday to the Nuffield Waste Site in Poole in protest against Poole Council's decision to prevent local residents from outside Poole Borough from using the waste site to dispose of household and garden waste. Organised by District and County Councillor Fred Drane, who has taken an active role in criticising the council's decision discriminating against Purbeck residents, the group walked from Upton Community Centre at 10am on Saturday 3rd September, arriving at the Nuffield Waste Site at 11am. Those who were unable to walk the distance met at the Nuffield site at 11am. Being prevented from using the most local site at Poole, Upton residents are being forced to travel to the next nearest waste site which is located in Wareham industrial estate, a distance of some 12 miles roundtrip from Upton. This recent decision is causing great inconvenience to many Upton residents who have long relied on the Nuffield site to dispose of their household and garden waste locally.
