There are so many opportunities to develop sustainable energy for the domestic home

The Sustainable Energy Partnership, which represents all the major environmental and 'fuel poverty' NGOs has today written thanking Annette Brooke MP for agreeing to be present in Parliament on Friday 11th November to support two vitally important Bills dealing with climate change and fuel poverty - The Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Bill and the Management of Energy in Buildings Bill.

Both of these Bills will have their parliamentary second reading on that day - and in order to ensure that they succeed at least 100 MPs will need to be in the House to vote for them.

Annette Brooke MP said:

"Climate change and sustainable development are among the issues that my constituents are most concerned about. People do realise that we need to act now to ensure that we improve our fuel efficiency and invest in efficient and effective forms of renewable energy to preserve our environment in the longer term for future generations."

Partnership Organiser Ron Bailey said:

"It is absolutely vital that these Bills succeed on 11th. Emissions of CO2 continue to increase and rising energy prices will mean that even more people will suffer from cold homes and fuel poverty this winter. These Bills contain practical measures to deal with both problems.

"We appreciate that it may be difficult for MPs to be in parliament on a Friday, so we are especially grateful to Annette Brooke MP for agreeing to be in the House to ensure that these Bills succeed. This is exactly the example that MPs need to set - action not just fine words. We thank Annette Brooke MP for making this commitment to the environment and to ending fuel poverty."

Notes to editors below:

The purpose of the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Bill is to make a provision for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, alleviating fuel poverty, promoting microgeneration and the introduction of a renewable heat obligation.

The purpose of the Management of Energy in Buildings is to extend energy efficiency in domestic buildings through the reporting of progress towards targets and through facilitating the development and installation of microgeneration, or by using external power in a sustainable way.
