Rod Morgan resigned as chairman of the Youth Justice Board; a sign that the government has failed young people in conflict with the law

Commenting on Professor Rod Morgan's resignation as chairman of the Youth Justice Board and his attack on Government policy, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Children, Young People and Families, Annette Brooke MP said:

"Rod Morgan's resignation is yet another signal that the Government are continuing to fail young people in conflict with the law.

"We imprison more young people than many of our European neighbours, and we are finding - unsurprisingly - that incarceration is not the key to rehabilitation.

"Blair's Government needs to drastically re-think its approach to youth justice. We are falling far short of our commitments to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child by criminalising those young people that need our help."
