Wareham volunteer attends MP Heroes Tea Party

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset & North Poole recently nominated Janet Bassett, from Wareham, for a special national older volunteer award. Janet and her friend Joy travelled up to the House of Commons on Tuesday 26th June 2007, to collect the award at an MP Heroes Tea Party Event.

For over 25 years Janet has run the Sunshine Club for senior citizens in Wareham. The club which has over 85 members, meets every Monday, where tea and various other activities are on offer. In addition Janet regularly organises day trips and holidays abroad - she even takes a group away to a hotel for Christmas every year.

Annette Brooke MP said:

"Janet and her many helpers have made an amazing difference to so many people's lives and she gives up so much of her own time because she enjoys what she is doing."
