Annette visits Upton Youth United Group

On Thursday 21st August Annette Brooke MP visited the Upton Youth United Group who were preparing banners for their new drop-in advice centre. Annette said "it is so nice to see young people working together to do something so positive for their local community". The drop-in advice centre is to open shortly.

Annette presents new books to Lytchett Matravers Library

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, celebrated the Summer Reading Challenge, which aims to keep 650,000 young people across the UK active and reading throughout the summer holidays. A few weeks ago she attended a reception in Westminster and was allowed to choose books to bring back to the constituency. This year Annette chose to present them to Lytchett Matravers Library.

Annette Brooke MP celebrates UK-wide children's reading programme

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, last week celebrated the Summer Reading Challenge, which aims to keep 650,000 young people across the UK active and reading throughout the summer holidays. She attended a House of Commons reception on Wednesday 16 July held by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Libraries, Literacy and Information Management.

Sandford Post Office Proposed for Closure - but Carey Road Post Office Retained

Your Local MP, Annette Brooke, is very concerned about the impact of the closure on elderly people in Sandford and those who are unable to drive. The publication of the news was due to be on July 15th but was published in the Daily Echo on Saturday. Various Tory MP's were quoted in the article but Annette was not contacted on the matter. The Liberal Democrat team want to hear your views.

ANNETTE BROOKE BACKS END CHILD POVERTY CAMPAIGN

Annette Brooke MP demanded that the Government ends child poverty as they signed up to the "Keep the promise" campaign". She called on people to back the campaign and demand a better future for children in Mid Dorset and North Poole.

Dr Vince Cable MP visits Lytchett Matravers, Saturday 28th June 2008

Over 100 people attended a meeting at the Village Hall at 10am on Saturday 28th June, to meet Dr Vince Cable MP, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor. The meeting was specifically about the proposed extra 2750 houses in the green belt in the vicinity of Lytchett Minster/ Lytchett Matravers.

Westminster Salute to Canford Heath Hero

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset & North Poole recently nominated John Friberg, from Canford Heath, for a Heroes Award in respect of his voluntary work in her constituency. John and his wife Peggy travelled up to the House of Commons on Tuesday 24th June 2008, to collect the award at an MP Heroes Tea Party Event.

Good Governance requires strong opposition

Purbeck District Council's Liberal Democrat Group has declined an offer by Purbeck's two Independent members to join a 'rainbow alliance' of all groups lead by the Independents, following the District Council elections which saw the Conservatives lose overall control after 9 years; the Council is now 11 Conservative, 11 Liberal Democrats and 2 Independents.

Purbeck Council Elections - Lib Dem gains, Conservative losses

Conservatives have lost overall control of Purbeck District Council after 9 years, following gains by the Liberal Democrats in the elections on Thursday. Against a rising Conservative vote nationally, Lib Dems gained a seat in Wareham with Keith Critchley defeating the Chairman of the Council by 330 votes. They successfully held seats in St Martin and Upton East with increased majorities, held one seat in Lytchett Matravers ward and narrowly missed gaining the second by just 14 votes.
